Printed on the Back of Each Kokopelli Card Kokopelli - Hohokam Flute PlayerThe joy-bringer is found in rock art, among other locations, at Arizona’s Painted Rocks State Park on the Gila River west of Gila Bend. Kokopelli has been interpreted by various authors as a
deity, clan symbol, shaman or medicine man. He is usually depicted with a
hump on his back (sometimes interpreted as a burden basket), and
often is phallic in the extreme, holding a flute to his mouth, and
frequently dancing to his music. Feathers or appendages on his head are also
depicted. The flute is used in sacred ritual as well as courtship in some
cultures including the Anasazi. There are a myriad of myths and stories
related to Kokopelli. |
